The Shanghai German School was opened in September 1996 and is a privately funded school, supported by German companies in Shanghai. In international surroundings they offer a future-orientated education from the toddlers’ groups onwards up to the Abitur (highest German school leaving certificate allowing entrance to universities worldwide), which can be taken after 12 years. 

English classes from year one in primary school and bilingual courses in other subjects support the international approach. German is naturally the main teaching language but the students also study Chinese and English.
