The French School opened in September 1996 and shares facilities with the German School, close to Shanghai ZOO in Hong Qiao. The school teaches the curriculum based on the French National Curriculum and is open to all French speaking nationalities.
The school is privately funded but also receives financial support from the Ministry of Education in France. A French Students Parents Association exists but membership for enrollment to the school in not required. French is the official teaching language but the students also received classes in Chinese and English
