The British International School was founded in 2002 by the Nord Anglia Education Group to offer a high standard British National Curriculum to expatriate children in Shanghai between 3-15 years; Nursery to Year 9 - (the plan is to expand to 18 years and offer full high school curriculum over the next 3 years).

All children above 5 years are taught based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales and therefore follow the nationally agreed study programs in Mathematics, Science, Design & Technology (DT), Information & Communication (ICT), History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Design Technology, (DT), Music, Physical Education (PE) and Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE). The children in Nursery and Reception follows the Foundation Curriculum based on the UK Early Learning Goals.

All fees must be paid on or before the first day of term. Pupils may only attend school if the fees are paid.
